DANIEL B. BUCHALTER, M.D., is a Fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in minimally invasive hip and knee replacement as well as complex primary and revision hip and knee reconstruction. He is dedicated to providing all patients with every available treatment option and utilizes the most advanced surgical and nonsurgical technologies and techniques.

Dr. Buchalter completed his joint replacement fellowship at the renowned Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), the #1 ranked orthopedic hospital in the nation, where he was awarded the inaugural Paul M. Pellicci, MD Clinical Excellence Award by the Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement faculty at HSS in recognition of his outstanding clinical skills and patient care.

He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital (LOH), the largest orthopedic residency program in the country, where he was appointed Executive-Chief Resident by the orthopedic faculty and his peers in recognition of his leadership skills and where he was awarded the Senior Resident Teaching Award by his peers. As one of two graduates of the NYU LOH 6-year, Clinician-Scientist Training Program, he was additionally awarded the Senior Resident Research Award for excellence in his performance of basic science research.

Dr. Buchalter earned his M.D. from the prestigious NYU Grossman School of Medicine where he graduated in 3 years as part of their accelerated MD Pathway, following his undergraduate studies in Biology at Cornell University where he graduated with research and Latin honors.

At every stage in his career, Dr. Buchalter has received awards and honors in recognition of his clinical, research, teaching, and leadership skills. A recipient of multiple orthopedic research grants, he has made large contributions to the orthopedic literature having authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, multiple book chapters, and having presented his work at national and international orthopedic meetings among the world’s thought leaders in orthopedics.

Dr. Buchalter is skilled in performing a range of advanced orthopedic procedures, including hip, knee, and shoulder replacements. He utilizes the most advanced robotic and computer technologies and uses minimally invasive approaches for his joint replacements including the direct anterior, STAR, and JIFFY approaches. Whether for a first-time joint replacement or a revision procedure, he is especially adept at taking care of patients that other physicians may turn away due to their surgical or medical complexities.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Buchalter actively consults for orthopedic companies to design surgical robots and implants, playing a pivotal role in creating cutting-edge technologies that improve the outcomes of orthopedic patients. His expertise in clinical practice, research, and technological innovation positions him at the forefront of advancing patient care.

He is an active member of various professional organizations, including AAOS, AAHKS, ORS, BHS, NYS Society of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the Medical Society of the State of New York. Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Buchalter is passionate about restoring and racing cars, sailing, clamming, weightlifting, skiing, and following Formula 1, reflecting his dynamic and multifaceted interests.
